Halesi Mahadev Temple or Halesi-Maratika Cave is one of a very popular holy temple also known as The Pashupatinath of eastern Nepal all over the country which in the Khotang district, 945m (3100ft)–1442m (4734ft) above sea level. In 185km South-West of Mount Everest and  230 km from Kathmandu, it is a venerated site of Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimage. Kirati people also come there to worship there as they believed Paruhang as Mahadev and Sungnima as Parbati goddess.

We believe that Hindu god Lord Shiva hid here for 6000 years from the demon Bhasmasur. This temple in such a mysterious location is the most famous natural Halesi-Maratika Cave in between the holy rivers of Dudh Koshi and Sun Kosi under 20m (67ft) below the surface. During holidays of a different event, Shivaratri, Ganesh Chaturdarthi, Rama Nawami, they hold many more festivals in the area. There are three caves on a hilltop which represent three eyes of Lord Shiva.

This significance site which is usually cold and rainy comprises history back from the 12th century and which is perfect to visit to be more familiar with Nepali tradition and culture.
